California State University of Northridge is offering a NEW SAT workshop designed to prepare students for the New SAT by reviewing all question types, including the new Writing Section (student - written essay and multiple choice). Two of the three class meetings will focus on the Math section, which has been expanded to include topics from college preparatory math. One extended meeting will focus on analyzing and practicing the Critical Reading (including short and long reading passages) and Writing sections. The course fee is $225. Common Scams:
* Phony scholarship - promises cash if you pay a registration fee
* Phony scholarship matching service - pay a fee and they guarantee you will win scholarships
* Phony eduacational loan - paya fee and receive a low interest rate
* Phony financial aid seminar - a high pressure, poorly concealed sales pitch
** Don't let a consultant take a percentage of your aid as a fee. The aid that you win is yours and shouldn't be shared. NEVER use a consultant who encourages you to do something unethical. If you falsify financial aid forms, you can end up paying a big fine, in jail or both. Remember that financial aid help is always available for FREE!
Seniors: Register at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov after January 1st of your Senior year. This is the Federal Government website that controls all Federal (and California) Grants and Loan programs. Fill out the forms and register for your Federal PIN online.
