Mr. Barker is pleased to begin his seventh year at Trinity Lutheran High School. He is the Director of the Theatre Department, U.S. and World History teacher, and Trinity's Guidance/College Counselor. He has been teaching for ten years.
Mr. Barker graduated from the University of Vermont with a BA in Theatre Arts; where he received the University's highest acting award - The Modjeska Lamp. Mr. Barker began his performing career at the Champlain Shakespeare Festival. He was selected to spend two summers at Tanglewood with the Boston Symphony Orchestra's Young Vocalists Program and was chosen to study orchestral and choral conducting with Aaron Copeland, Seiji Ozawa, and Leonard Bernstein.
Mr. Barker is a professional director/actor/singer. He has directed, musical directed, and performed all over the country in regional theaters, dinner theatres, in National Tours, and Off-Broadway, in New York. He was the principal baritone at the Light Opera of Manhattan for four years where he performed over twenty-five leading roles, including all thirteen Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. Mr. Barker has directed numerous professional productions in New York and LA, notably at the Falcon Theatre in Burbank, the NoHo Arts Center, and the Grove Theatre in Upland, for the show Tonight at 11! starring local NBC4 weather-caster, Fritz Coleman. He also directed actress/singer, Ana Guigui, in her one woman show, God Box. It was presented summer 2009 at the Actors Forum Theatre in LA. During the summer of 2007, Robert was the Director of Simi Valley's Trinity Lutheran Summer Camp. At Trinity-Simi, Mr. Barker was subsequently hired as the Director of Youth Ministries; a position he continues to hold. Catherine Miller Barker Mrs. Barker has taught the Theatre class with Mr. Barker for the past six years. Prior to coming to TLHS she was the music teacher at Katherine Elementary School in Simi Valley, teaching grades K-6. She has a BS in Theatre Performance from Emerson College in Boston. Mrs. Barker is also a professional actor/singer and a published knitwear designer. She has appeared in national commercials, Daytime Dramas, Regional and Dinner Theatres, and Off-Broadway. She has also written three screenplays. Mrs. Barker teaches private voice and knitting lessons. Mr. and Mrs. Barker are the proud parents of two daughters: Emily, a recent graduate of UC Davis, a painter who majored in Art Studio; and Olivia, a Junior at Trinity Lutheran High. Last spring they directed 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Mr. and Mrs. Barker have also directed numerous other productions and Christmas plays including: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw, and Paul Sills' Story Theatre, and The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde, Frost, A Christmas Cabaret and Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. * Please visit the Theatre Page for production information, past performances, and many other theatrical happenings! |
